A proper remote for Android TV, from your iPhone

Remote Pro implements Google’s native Android TV remote protocol — encrypted pairing with the 6-digit PIN, then instant D-pad, volume, and keyboard input on Sony, TCL, Hisense and Philips sets and Chromecast with Google TV.

What you get

Built on the Android TV protocol, not a workaround

The native protocol

Not a screen-mirroring trick or a cast workaround — the same remote protocol Google’s own app uses, so every button behaves like the real remote.

Volume, power, and D-pad

Full control including volume and power — Android TV’s protocol supports the lot, unlike some platforms.

Type with your keyboard

Search fields, passwords, YouTube queries — typed from the iPhone keyboard instead of arrow-key hunting.

Encrypted pairing

Pairing uses Google’s certificate-based handshake with the PIN shown on your TV. Your phone and TV talk directly, on your network.

Setup

Pairing with Android TV / Google TV

  1. 1

Connect the iPhone to the same WiFi network as the TV or Chromecast.

  2. 2

Open Remote Pro and tap Scan — Android TV devices announce themselves by name.

  3. 3

Tap your TV. It shows a 6-digit code on screen; enter it in Remote Pro.

  4. 4

Paired — securely, and permanently. Remote Pro remembers the pairing certificate.

The honest part

What you should know before installing anything

Older Android TVs may use the legacy protocol

Google replaced its remote protocol around Android TV 11 / Google TV. Remote Pro implements the current (v2) protocol — the one all Google TV and recent Android TV devices use. A very old set-top box on the original protocol may not pair.

The TV must be awake for first pairing

Pairing needs the PIN on screen, so switch the TV on with its buttons or the old remote once. After pairing, Remote Pro can wake it from standby.

And yes — there’s an official free app

The free Google TV app includes a remote and it’s good — if you’re in Google’s ecosystem and happy to sign in. Remote Pro pairs directly with the device, no Google account on your phone required, and covers the Samsung, Fire TV and Roku hardware in your house too.
