Vizio TV remote app for iPhone

Not supported No — Remote Pro does not control it

Vizio TVs run Vizio SmartCast, which Remote Pro cannot reach. We are not going to sell you an app that cannot do the job — here is what does.

  • Vizio SmartCast no

Vizio sets run SmartCast, which uses Vizio’s own control protocol. Remote Pro does not implement it, so Vizio is a straight no from us — and Vizio’s free app is genuinely the right tool here.

How to tell: Vizio sets run SmartCast: app rows on the home screen with a SmartCast badge, Chromecast built in, and an input list that includes “SmartCast” itself.

The alternative

What to do instead

Remote Pro cannot control this one. These are the options that actually work, best first.

  1. 1

Install Vizio’s own free app, Vizio Mobile, from the App Store. It includes a complete SmartCast remote and pairs using a code shown on the TV.

  2. 2

Put the phone and the TV on the same WiFi network, then add the television in Vizio Mobile.

  3. 3

SmartCast has Chromecast built in, so you can also cast from any iPhone app that supports it and control playback from there.

  4. 4

Or buy a replacement Vizio remote — they are inexpensive and mostly interchangeable within the brand.

The honest part

What you should know before you install anything

Remote Pro does not control Vizio SmartCast televisions. SmartCast uses Vizio’s own protocol, which we have not implemented — so the answer is no, rather than a download that disappoints you.

An iPhone has no infrared blaster, so a television that is only controllable by infrared cannot be controlled by any phone app — ours or anyone else’s. We say that on every page rather than hide it in a review reply.

There is a free official app

Vizio Mobile — free, from Vizio, with a full SmartCast remote. Remote Pro is the answer for the Samsung, Fire TV, Android TV and Roku devices in the house, not for the Vizio.

Got a Samsung, Fire TV, Android TV or Roku in the house too?

That is what Remote Pro is for. It speaks those four platforms natively over your own WiFi — full D-pad, volume where the platform allows it, and a real iPhone keyboard for search. It will not control your Vizio, and it will never claim to.
